How to know when to raise

Holdem Poker is very different from any other form of poker, because of the way that players relate to their betting. There is an entire strategy around Holdem Poker that relates on when, how and why to bet, The whole point is never to become a stereo-typed player as the other players at the table will soon read and recognise a player's style and gradually ease them out of play.

That's the reason why players check, bet and raise when to an outside it may not seem at all logical. However as anyone who has played Holdem Poker for a while or watched some of these televised tournaments on the television will tell you, at Poker Holdem nothing is as it seems.

In truth, Poker Holdem players are only meantto bet when their hand. Is strong, and players who have a weak hand are supposed to fold. However it doesn't quite work that way in reality. Players use the raise option as a playing strategy, sometimes to tremenndous effect, and sometimes not. You will find that an experienced player has their own set of rules relating to rising, which they often disguise among their general box of tricks. However there are some definite playing styles that they do not deviate from and if everything goes to plan, properly definition of these raise plays will earn them profit in the long term. For example a player on the button will always try to steal the blinds by rising. It a great value bet, and will work more times than not.

Check rising is another popular ploy, if there are a few players left on the table. Players start by checking to their opponent, even if they have a strong hand. This may well lure them into making a bet, and when they do, they are immediately re-raised. At that stage they will be pot committed and might even re-raise with a weak hand. After that they can be called and a nice pot won, and certainly more than if the check-raise play had not been tried.
