How to play on the Button at Holdem Poker

Ask any experienced Holdem Poker player which position is the best to be on the table, and they will always tell you that the "button" wins it. The button is the term used to indicate that the hand is being dealt from this point; the button sits before the "small blind". Players on the button are the ones who get to play after the rest of table players and before the small blind and the "big blind". Players who are on the button have the luxury of knowing who will have bet, raised or folded before they need to do anything. They also know how much the small blind and even the big blind will need to bet, if at all. They can sometimes steal the pot by placing a bet large enough to scare of the big blind.

The player on the button has the best chance of making a low value raise to the big blind even if their hand is fairly weak, to see if it can be strengthened after the flop. If the button player's hand does not improve, then they are still making a pretty good value bet to find out.
