Once the first round of betting is completed and all players have their hole cards in front of them, the dealer discards the top card to ensure none of the players have seen it. This is referred to as the “Burn Card”. Discarding the burn card also helps prevent cheat, but obviously in live games. However, in an online setting the tradition will always continue.
Once the top card has been burnt, the dealer deals three cards that are placed face up on the table – also known as community cards. This is what’s referred to as the "flop".
After the flop has been dealt, the players remaining in the hand make another round of bets. Again the betting always begins with the player to the left of the dealer (the button). Players can either check, call, raise, re-raise or fold according their turn to bet. Once this sequence has been completed, it's time to go down to Fourth Street.
